As the evenings draw in and we approach times of celebration – such as Bonfire Night, New Year’s Eve, or other special occasions – SPC encourages residents to enjoy fireworks responsibly and considerately.
While fireworks can be a wonderful way to mark an event, they can also cause distress to some residents in our village as well as pets, livestock, and wildlife. B&NES Council has provided useful guidance to help ensure firework use is safe, respectful, and environmentally responsible.
How to be a firework friendly neighbour
Here are a few key points to keep in mind:
• Inform your neighbours in advance if you plan to use fireworks – particularly those with animals, young children, or elderly family members.
• Consider quieter fireworks, which provide visual enjoyment without excessive noise.
• Dispose of debris responsibly to help protect our green spaces and environment.
• You may also wish to explore the RSPCA’s page, which offers useful advice and resources for promoting animal-friendly celebrations and engaging with neighbours, visit https://www.rspca.org.uk/geti…/campaign/fireworks/friendly
Attending public displays – and if organising a public display please let SPC know!
Where possible, attending a publicly organised firework display is often a safer and more considerate option, and can be a great way to enjoy the festivities as a community.
SPC looks to share where Bonfire Night events are taking place locally for resident’s awareness. If you are planning a public Bonfire Night event, please let SPC know – we’ll add it to our 2025 web article so that residents can be aware and prepare if needed. (See our 2024 page at https://www.saltfordparishcouncil.gov.uk/consider-the…/ )
SPC supports the use of quieter fireworks
Saltford Parish Council has previously resolved to try to help reduce the impact of fireworks, by writing to the Local Government Association and the Government to request a limit on the volume of fireworks.
Thank you for your understanding, and for keeping the fun thoughtful so that both two-legged and four-legged residents can enjoy (or cope with) celebrations!
