Change to heritage lamps in Saltford’s Conservation Area to reduce carbon emissions - Saltford Parish Council

B&NES Council have informed SPC that with a view to reducing B&NES Council’s street lighting carbon emissions and energy costs, they propose to change the lamps in the heritage lights to a warm white LED.

In the B&NES Council area 96% of our street lights are LEDs, and they are working towards 100% by replacing the sodium bulbs in the heritage street lights.

The existing lamps are 70w Son but with control gear the total circuit watts is 90w. The new lamps are 25w with no control gear. This makes them approximately 70% energy saving.

These changes will be made to lamps in Saltford’s Conservation Area. It will involve the replacement of the bulb (lamp) only. The light fitting and optic shall remain the same.

Once complete the light will appear clearer and you may notice that the colour temperature of the light has changed. B&NES Council have already trialled these lamps within the BANES area and the reaction so far has been positive.

Volker Highways will be carrying out this work on behalf of B&NES Council during the next 2 – 3 months.

SPC Cllr Phil Harding, lead councillor for Environmental matters, welcomed Saltford’s B&NES Ward Cllr Duncan Hounsell informing the Parish Council about the upcoming changes. Cllr Harding has stated that the change makes sense and that they should not detract from the heritage look of the existing light fittings.

If there is a faulty street light in your neighbourhood please report it to B&NES Council via FixMyStreet: https://fix.bathnes.gov.uk/
