Suspension of garden waste services & disruption to waste and recycling services - Saltford Parish Council

B&NES Council say the national shortage of HGV drivers is continuing to impact on waste and recycling services, alongside staff sickness.

The decision to suspend some garden waste collections was taken by B&NES Council on Monday 15 November as a last resort to ensure they can prioritise black bin and kerbside recycling services.

On Wednesday 17 November, B&NES Council informed SPC that some garden waste collections in Saltford have been suspended. They request that residents retain their garden waste and put the bin out again on their next scheduled collection (Wed 1 Dec).

On Thursday 18 November, B&NES Council again informed SPC that some garden waste collections in Saltford had been postponed, and for residents to please put their garden waste out again on Thursday 2nd December.

Please see SPC’s social media posts for lists of roads shared by B&NES Council that are affected (right hand bar of this page).

B&NES say all residents affected by the suspended garden waste collections will have an extension to their existing subscriptions, and thanks residents for their patience and understanding in difficult circumstances. B&NES Council will arrange extensions in due course.

Saltford residents can stay up to date with waste, recycling and green bin collection disruptions at https://beta.bathnes.gov.uk/waste-disruptions . If alerted by B&NES Council, SPC also aims to share updates on its social media pages.

General information about Garden Waste is available on the B&NES Council website.

To make the best use of space in recycling containers and to help crews with efficient collections, residents are asked to:

  • Sort your green boxes to help speed up the collections (having two boxes helps considerably if you have room to store two) – follow Recycle for Bathnes on Facebook for tips
  • Wash and squash materials such as plastics to make more space and keep your containers as clean as possible

Things that cannot be collected in recycling:

  • Black plastic, polystyrene, plastic film or hard plastics such as toys or hangers
  • Any cardboard should have any plastic, sticky tape and polystyrene removed
  • Nappies cannot be recycled – do not put them in your green box
  • Wrapping paper (including Christmas paper)
