Have your say: WECA launches public consultation on updated A4 Bath to Bristol – Keynsham section proposals

WECA (West of England Combined Authority) has launched a public consultation on updated plans for the Keynsham section of its A4 Bath to Bristol project and is inviting residents, businesses and stakeholders to share their views.
WECA previously consulted on proposals for the Keynsham section in 2023. Since then, WECA has stated that feedback has been reviewed, changes have been made to the designs, and further environmental and engineering surveys have been carried out.
The updated proposals include:
- New bus stops providing central access to the X39 bus service, including on the Keynsham Bypass.
- More than two miles of new active travel routes along the Keynsham Bypass.
- Measures intended to improve connectivity between Keynsham, Bath and Bristol.
The consultation is open until 22 September 2026.
According to WECA, the wider A4 Bath to Bristol project aims to provide more sustainable travel options and create safer, more attractive routes for pedestrians and cyclists. Proposed improvements across the route include:
- New bus lanes to support faster and more reliable bus journeys.
- Upgrades to more than 100 bus stops.
- Safer pedestrian crossings, including near local schools.
- Approximately 5.5 miles (9km) of new and improved walking and cycling routes.
WECA consulted on other elements of the wider project in 2025, including for Saltford. In 2025, WECA proposed a bus lane from the Broadmead roundabout to Saltford (pictured), new traffic-light crossings on the A4 to accommodate the bus lane, plus proposals for Norman Road, Saltford High Street and the ‘Greenway’.

Public Drop-in Events
WECA is holding a series of public drop-in events where residents can discuss the proposals directly with the project team. Details of event dates, times and locations are available on the consultation website.
Saltford Parish Council encourages residents who may be affected by, or have an interest in, these proposals to review the information and take part in the consultation before the closing date of 22 September 2026.
SPC will resolve its response to WECA’s latest consultation for the Keynsham section of the A4 at its September 2026 meeting.
