Update 27 August 2025
Information is available on One.Network at https://one.network/?GB142760980 . Keep an eye on One.Network for any updates on these planned roadworks. Update 26 August 2025
Saltford Parish Council has been informed by B&NES Council that the High Street footpath will be closed during the resurfacing works. They will be reopened after each shift.
Also, SPC has been informed that due to the high levels of ironworks on High Street, contractors have requested an extra day to complete the works. This has been agreed to by B&NES Council (the Highways Authority) and the scheme will now run until Monday 1 September (not including the weekend). The title of this article has been updated to reflect this.
High Street waste collections – Wednesday 27 August 2025: B&NES Council’s Waste Team has let SPC know that collections are scheduled to take place on Wednesday 27 August, with crews starting their round on High Street close to 7am. However, though contractors are aware that the Waste Team are collecting, there is still a chance the crews may not be permitted access to High Street (and therefore residential roads accessible from High Street) due to the resurfacing works. If that happens and Saltford Parish Council receives an update, we’ll share it with residents as soon as possible. Please ensure your waste is out before 7am so it can be collected on time! For updates or known disruptions to waste collection services, please check the B&NES Council Waste Service Disruption page here: https://www.bathnes.gov.uk/view-current-waste-collection-problems
Regarding the footpath closure, there will be a pedestrian diversion in place which will be sign posted, and there will be traffic marshals present to assist if required. This decision has been made for both contractor and pedestrian safety reasons.
A diversion route has been shared. Information from B&NES Council’s footpath closure notice is as follows:
BATH AND NORTH EAST SOMERSET COUNCIL HEREBY GIVE NOTICE
that on Tuesday 26th August 2025, High Street, Saltford shall be closed to all
pedestrians, in the interests of public safety, to enable Bath & North East
Somerset Council to carry out highway resurfacing works.
The footpath will be closed at High Street, Saltford for its entire length.
The road will also be closed for its entire length for the same period. The road
closure has already been processed under Temporary Traffic Regulation
Order (TTRO) ref THTTC3793
Alternative Pedestrian Route: The Shallows – A4 – Beech Road – Vice
versa.
The closure and diversion will be clearly indicated by traffic signs. Access will
be maintained for residents and businesses where possible, although delays
are likely due to the nature of the works.
These works will commence on Tuesday 26th August 2025 and the road
closure is anticipated to be required for 7 days. This Notice will have a
maximum duration of 14 days.
When it was informed of the works in July, SPC had contacted B&NES Council for information about pedestrian access on the High Street, and flagged that some sections did not have pavement. SPC was informed at the time (and as below in its original article) that members of the public should speak to wardens present during the works about access. The information received from B&NES Council in its urgent footpath closure notice supersedes the information given to SPC in its article below (dating from July 2025).

Update: 23 July 2025
Revised letter and map: Please scroll to section in bold for B&NES Council’s revised letter to residents (further to previous version shared). The map has also been updated. B&NES Council has shared: “As the extents of resurfacing are starting from High Street we are able to keep Beech Road open and accessible for vehicles”. This is shown in the revised map below (also on the letter to residents, p.2).
Pedestrian and cyclist access: Following SPC’s query about High Street access for non-motor vehicle users, B&NES Council has clarified that: “Pedestrian and cyclist access through High Street with be limited due to the footways not being continuous and depending on pedestrian destination on High Street this will need to be discussed with the Traffic Marshalls on site each day”.

Original article (22 July 2025)
Saltford Parish Council (SPC) has repeatedly requested the resurfacing of High Street, as recorded in its meeting minutes. SPC most recently requested that B&NES Council maintain High Street at its October 2024 meeting (Item 14), under its annual ‘Recommendations to B&NES Council for Highways Maintenance 2025/26’ item. SPC welcomed information in 2025 from B&NES Council that confirmed that resurfacing of High Street would take place this financial year.

SPC’s requests had been particularly pressing since the road experienced increased wear from heavy plant vehicles used during Wessex Water’s Mead Lane bridge and Saltford water recycling site expansion works. SPC thanks residents who have both raised this issue directly to B&NES Council (the Highways Authority) and also addressed the Parish Council on this matter.
SPC welcomes B&NES Council’s decision to act on repeated requests, with resurfacing works on High Street confirmed as scheduled for August. The works are due to begin on Tuesday 26 August and are expected to take up to four days (pending weather), with a road closure in place to allow works to take place between 7am and 7pm each day.
SPC sought clarification from B&NES Council about pedestrian access on High Street during the works, and has updated this article (please see above).
Information about the road closure is available on One.Network. The map below from B&NES Council and their contractors Volker Highways shows the extent of works:

B&NES Council has today informed SPC that it intends to write to residents that are likely to be impacted by High Street resurfacing works. A copy of the text from the letter can be found below.
B&NES Council is the Highways Authority. All queries about the works need to be directed to B&NES Council’s Council Connect on 01225 394041 (not Saltford Parish Council). SPC will look to share any further updates or information if received from B&NES Council about these works. Please check for updates on our social media (recent posts are shown on the right-hand bar on our website).
As above, ‘Recommendations to B&NES Council for Highways Maintenance’ is an annual item on SPC’s agenda, usually in the autumn (September or October) ahead of B&NES Council deciding their priorities for the next financial year. Residents are welcome to attend and speak on this item at SPC meetings. More information about SPC’s meetings can be found on our ‘Meetings – Agendas and Minutes‘ page.
Letter from B&NES Council to residents (revised 23 July version):
Dear Resident,
NOTICE OF RESURFACING WORKS AT: HIGH STREET, SALTFORD
Resurfacing works will take place at the above location(s) from Tuesday 26th August and are expected to take up to 4 days to complete, depending on the weather. Work will be carried out under a road closure between 7am and 7pm.
Vehicles parked within the closure may be removed so as not to delay works. The road will be re-opened to traffic at the end of each shift. Residents will need to make their own arrangements to find alternative parking. Unfortunately, this also applies to disabled parking spaces within the area of work, we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Diversion routes will be in place for local traffic and advance notices positioned along the route to warn drivers of the road closure.
We always try to complete works as quickly as possible, but please be aware the time frame given is a guide and that poor weather or good progress on site may mean the timings can change.
Restricted vehicle access for residents’ private frontages within the road closures will be maintained whenever possible and when it is safe and as site operations allow. Access will be controlled by Traffic Marshalls, who’ll also give advice on likely access windows as the works progress. Unfortunately, there will be times when access will not be possible, so please be prepared for delays, disruption and make alternative arrangements before these works start.
Please consider providing advance warning to any deliveries or visitors you may expect during this period and suggest they find parking as there will be no access of the site while the closure is in place.
Just so you know:
- Emergency services will always be given access when responding to an emergency.
- Bus operators have been informed and will be re-routing services if needed.
- We are working with our Waste Service Team to try and ensure collections are not disrupted, although regrettably there will be occasions when this is not possible. Bath and North East Somerset Council are working in partnership with our Contractor Volker Highways, to maintain our highway network. If you would like any more information, please call Council Connect on 01225 394041. Thank you for your co-operation and patience during these necessary works.

SPC requests vehicle weight and size limits on High Street and surrounding roads
For awareness, at its June 2025 meeting Saltford Parish Council (SPC) resolved to request that B&NES Council – the Highways Authority – consult on implementing legal restrictions on vehicle weight and size for High Street, Mead Lane and The Shallows. Please view SPC’s article dated June 2025 (updated 1 July 2025): ‘SPC requests vehicle size and weight limits on High Street and narrow roads nearby‘.
This request was made in part to help preserve the new road surface following resurfacing works.
SPC has since been informed by B&NES Council that its request has been added to B&NES Council’s task register for future consideration for its programme. SPC has been advised that this would be one of a number on the programme and as such would compete with other similar requests.
Again, SPC will look to update residents should there be any further information on this shared by B&NES Council with Saltford Parish Council.
