Manor Road ('lane' & part of highway) and Longwood Lane closed for resurfacing works from 21 July 2025 - Saltford Parish Council

UPDATE 14/07/25: B&NES Council says resurfacing works will be on Manor Rd only but Longwood Lane will also be closed to traffic, to allow works to take place. The article below has been updated with B&NES Council’s information, and SPC has requested B&NES Council to update the One.Network website to accurately reflect works and the extent of road closures (still not showing correctly as of 14/07/25). B&NES Council says it will keep SPC informed about these works going forward. One.Network link showing resurfacing works and road closure at Manor Road showing at https://one.network/?GB142871026

Original article (updated):

From Monday 21 July, B&NES Council will be carrying out resurfacing works at Manor Road (‘lane’ & part of highway) and Longwood Lane will be closed to allow works to take place (inc. at the Longwood Lane and Manor Road junction). The closure will include Longwood Lane, the stretch of Manor Road between Montague Road and its junction with Longwood Lane, as well as the bollarded lane used by cyclists, pedestrians, and horse riders. Please see the map detailing the extent of closures below (closures are marked in red). The stretch of Manor Road to be resurfaced is – we think – from the junction with Longwell Lane and the entire section within the bollards (e.g. where the ‘lane’ has been permanently closed to motor vehicles).

Map showing extent of resurfacing works road closures in red, as shared by B&NES Council. Please note that Longwood Lane, though closed, will not be resurfaced. This is to allow resurfacing at its junction with Manor Road.

Please be aware that at the time of writing, the map differs to information on One.Network (which just shows Manor Road ‘lane’ as to be closed) however One.Network is likely to update its information and SPC has been informed by B&NES Council that the closures on the map as shared above are correct.

The official notice states the works are expected to take up to 5 days, but metal signs on site mention 2 days. SPC understands the 5-day timeframe is likely to allow for any delays due to weather or unforeseen issues. Diversion signs will be in place for local traffic, and advance warning signs have already been posted along the route (see photos below, taken by Cllr Gary Graveling on 9th July). It is anticipated that the stretch involving Longwood Lane’s junction with Manor Road will be resurfaced first, to minimise the amount of time Longwood Lane may have to be closed.

Please note that cyclists, pedestrians, and horse riders will need to use alternative routes while the works are underway. Once complete, resurfacing of this stretch of Manor Road will make it even more enjoyable to walk, cycle, skate, scoot and horse ride along this stretch adjacent to ‘Saltford South’, the area of Green Belt that SPC’s been working to achieve additional landscape protection for since January 2023. For up-to-date information about SPC’s efforts, visit our ‘Protecting Saltford’s Green Belt‘ page.

SPC understands that B&NES Council intends to cut back vegetation along Manor Road ‘lane’ (the section closed to motor vehicles between the bollards, as closed to motor vehicles last year at SPC’s request). If residents view that vegetation on the lane requires cutting back in the future, please log a report directly to B&NES Council via FixMyStreet – simply visit https://fix.bathnes.gov.uk/ and you will receive direct updates from B&NES Council as well as it being a way to let other residents know it’s been reported.

SPC will share any updates if timings or information changes (if received) about these resurfacing works. B&NES Council is the Highways Authority for the Saltford area, and SPC thanks B&NES Council for these highways maintenance and resurfacing works in the village. SPC discusses highways maintenance requests to B&NES Council annually each autumn (usually in September or October), please view our ‘Meetings – Agendas and Minutes‘ page. Thanks also to B&NES Ward Cllr Duncan Hounsell for sharing the above information from B&NES Council.

Any enquires about the works need to be directed to B&NES Council, information is on the metal signs. B&NES Council’s Council Connect information is available on their website, visit https://www.bathnes.gov.uk/contact-us
