New seasonal charges at The Shallows car park - B&NES Council public consultation - Saltford Parish Council

At its July 2021 meeting (item 14) Saltford Parish Council agreed to request B&NES Council improve its management of The Shallows car park following concerns raised by residents about safety and overcrowding. SPC requested B&NES Council consider introducing a maximum period for parking to aid turnover.

At SPC’s meeting on Tuesday 6 September 2022 (in the Avon Room at Saltford Hall, 7:15pm start) the Parish Council will resolve its response to B&NES Council’s proposals on introducing seasonal charges and associated proposals. Residents can also respond to the consultation directly.

B&NES Council has proposed to introduce paid for parking charges for short stay durations to help manage turnover, particularly during peak periods (1hr 30p, 2hrs 60p, 3hrs 90p) with charges to apply from 1 April to 30 September. B&NES Council has also proposed free parking from 1 October to 31 March which will still require a free activation via MiPermit. The B&NES Council proposals include that parking (free or paid for) applies from 8am-8pm all year, with a no return period of 4 hours all year to support increased turnover and prevent a vehicle from parking all day. The public consultation opened today (25 August) and will close at 5pm on 15 September.

SPC will consider the proposals together with related discussions regarding the improved management of The Shallows car park. For instance, in July 2021 SPC requested measures to prevent parking on the green space surrounding the car park, for safety and access reasons and to restore amenity space at this location. SPC will revisit this request and other associated matters at its September 2022 meeting.

A copy of the consultation can be found here on the B&NES Council website.

Please use the online consultation to let B&NES Council know your views about their proposals. As well as responding directly to the consultation, residents can share their views with SPC at its upcoming September meeting prior to Saltford Parish Council resolving its own response to B&NES Council.

Other items on the agenda which relate to the use of B&NES Council’s The Shallows car park are likely to include:

  • Measures to address parking matters in Saltford to improve safety and access
  • Request to B&NES Council to address issues arising due to the use of the field opposite Saltford’s riverbank including Public Right of Way Access
  • The creation of a Local River Side Area Working Group

Saltford Parish Council welcomes members of the public to attend its meetings and speak on any agenda item.

Members of the public can speak for a maximum of three minutes, during ‘Public Time’ which is near the start of the meeting. Members of the public are welcome to attend all or just part of the meeting. To find out more about SPC’s meetings, please view our ‘Meetings – Agendas and Minutes’ webpage.
