Planned roadworks: A4 Bristol Road 3-11 April 2023 (expect delays) - Saltford Parish Council

UPDATED 28 MARCH 23 (B&NES COUNCIL ARTICLE, SCROLL TO END)

B&NES Council has informed SPC that Wales & West have some roadworks planned for the A4 Bristol Road which will cause some delays.

Please see the One.Network page at https://one.network/?GB133084377

The location for the works can be viewed in the image below along with an image of the the detour route. The area as indicated (near the rugby club site on the A4, nr Corston) will require two-way signals (temporary traffic lights) to make a repair to a pipe.

Due to the location of the pipe being under concreate curing times will require 8 continuous days to complete the works.

B&NES Council have purposely agreed for works to start on Monday 3rd April as this is the start of the school Easter Holidays, when the roads will be slightly quieter and will only use the one weekend.

If works go to schedule, the temporary traffic lights will be removed at 6am on 11th April.

B&NES Council would like residents to be aware that the site may appear inactive due to the curing time required. Wales & West will install a sign to indicate the reason during this period.

Advance warning signs about these roadworks will be on display from next week to alert travellers to the possible congestion and delays.

SPC thanks B&NES Council for getting in contact to share information about these works. Please note that B&NES Council is the Highways Authority, any enquiries regarding these works need to be directed to either B&NES Council or Wales & West. Further information about planned roadworks can be found on the One.Network website.

A press release issued by B&NES Council was sent to SPC on 28 March, as follows:

A4 Saltford roadworks – please plan your journey
Bath & North East Somerset Council is advising people plan their journeys between 3-11April as a section of A4 between Saltford and Bath will have two-way signals in place to allow Wales & West Utilities to make essential repairs.

The works will take place over school half term, when the volume of traffic on the highway is lower than normal, however delays are still expected.

Wales and West Utilities is making repairs to an underground gas pipe, which will involve laying and curing new concrete. This new concrete will need time to cure, and the site may be unattended for a period of time.

A statement from Wales & West Utilities says: “We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. “We’re very aware of the effect that our work can have on communities and commuters which is why we’re working closely with Bath & North East Somerset Council to get this essential work done while causing the least inconvenience to the community.”

Two-way signals will be in place from 9:30am Monday 3 April and will remain in place until works are completed early morning Tuesday 11 April.

Footways along the road will still be accessible for pedestrians.
