Remembrance Sunday in Saltford – Sunday 13 November 2022

SPC thanks Saltford Scouts for again leading on the arrangements of the village’s Remembrance Sunday commemorations. Thanks also to the Saltford Guides, all uniformed youth, and other residents, volunteers and marshals involved in the arrangements to mark the occasion.

SPC appreciates the work of B&NES Council’s teams who are currently putting in extra efforts to ensure both Saltford’s War Memorial and its Memorial Garden (by the Manor Road / A4 Bath Road junction) are looking their best at this time of year.

Parade and Remembrance Sunday Service at St Mary’s

On Remembrance Sunday, 13 November, the Parade will leave Saltford Hall for St Mary’s Church at around 9:30am

A memorial service will take place at around 10am at St Mary’s Church for those in the parade and representatives of the community only (due to space limitations in the church building itself).

Members of the public are welcome to join in with the Remembrance Sunday service from the churchyard (standing space only) where it is hoped a PA system will be used to share the service with those outside the church (to be confirmed). Please be aware that the churchyard ground is uneven and there is no protection from the elements, so please come prepared for the British weather at this time of year.

Following the church service, it is expected that the parade from St Mary’s Church to the War Memorial will take place at about 10:45, headed by Scout and Guide leaders as well as local dignitaries.

Many residents as always are expected to gather around Saltford’s War Memorial. A short service will take place at the War Memorial ahead of the 11am silence. Wreaths will be laid, including a one laid by the Chair of Saltford Parish Council on behalf of all Saltford residents.

The parade will then return to Saltford Hall (Wedmore Road) where it will disperse.

Schedule of road closures

Residents are advised that there will be road closures in Saltford on Sunday 13 November between the times of 9:30hrs to 11:45hrs, on roads between Saltford Hall (Wedmore Road) and St Mary’s Church (High Street), including Broadway, Stratton Road, Norman Road and Beech Road.

We would be grateful if drivers could avoid the area during this time in the interests of safety of the young people involved in the parade, and advise anyone driving in the area to expect delays. Marshalls will be in place.

09:30hrs – 09:45hrs approx. Parade leaves Saltford Hall for St Mary’s Church. Wedmore Road / Broadway / Stratton Road / Norman Road / High Street.

10:45hrs – 11:10hrs approx. Parade leaves the St Mary’s Church marches along the High Street to the Memorial on the junction of the High Street / Beech Road.

11:10hrs – 11:20hrs approx. Parade returns to Saltford Hall and disperse. 

Saltford’s War Memorial

People wishing to pay their respects are being reminded about events taking place across Bath and North East Somerset to commemorate Remembrance Day on November 11 and Remembrance Sunday on November 13.

  • Keynsham Royal British Legion Parade – 9:30am: service at St John’s Church followed by a parade along the High St to Memorial Park for a two-minute silence and wreath laying.
  • Midsomer Norton – 10.40am: parade from West Clewes Recreation Ground. 11.00am, two-minute silence at the War Memorial followed by parade to St Johns’ Church for Remembrance Sunday Service.
  • Paulton – 2.35pm: Remembrance Parade in the centre. 2:45pm: Remembrance Sunday Service at War Memorial
  • Peasedown St John, St John’s Parish Church – 10.45am: Remembrance Sunday Service
  • Pensford War Memorial – 11.00am: Parade
  • Publow, All Saints Church – 9.30am: Holy Communion
  • Saltford War memorial – 10:00am – Saltford Scout and Guides Remembrance Service. Followed by a procession from Chelwood Rd to Broadway to Stratton Rd and to Norman Rd.

Ceremonies and Services in Bath

Sunday 6th November:

  • Abbey Churchyard, Bath – 2:00pm – Dedication of the Field of Remembrance, which will brought into the churchyard until November 17 to remember fallen servicemen and women.

Friday 11th November:

  • Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Bereavement Services Remembrance Day Service, Haycombe Cemetery – 10.45am: at the grassed area between the Cross of Sacrifice and the Blitz graves. Includes a two-minute silence at 11.00am. Refreshments will be served in the Top Chapel after the service.
  • Abbey Churchyard, Bath – 11.00am: two-minute silence
  • Combe Down, Holy Trinity Church – 10.00am: service. 11:00am: Bath United Services Association’s wreath laying ceremony.
  • Royal Victoria Park – 11:00am: service at the War Memorial
  • Twerton – 11.00am: wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial

Sunday 13th November:

  • Bath Royal British Legion Remembrance Parade – 11.00am: wreath laying at Royal Victoria Park War Memorial. 2.30pm: From the Guildhall, parade from Milsom St to Abbey Churchyard before a service at Bath Abbey at 3:00pm.
  • St Bartholomew’s Church – 11:00am: wreath laying ceremony.
  • Weston & Newbridge – 11:00am: wreath laying ceremony.

Avon and Somerset Police will be conducting a police operation on Remembrance Sunday, with officers out on the streets of Bath and engaging with the public. While there is no known risk to public safety, as with any major event, police are asking people to be vigilant and if something doesn’t feel right, speak to officers either in person or call 999.
