Saltford is the ‘Community Case Study’ at B&NES Council and the Environment Agency’s ‘Community Resilience Day’ on Friday 6 September, 9:30am-3:30pm. This free event will be held at Saltford Hall.
The day will consist of a morning of presentations from agencies such as B&NES council, Avon and Somerset Police, RE:ACT and Saltford as the a community case study. The afternoon will have workshop sessions with Avon Fire & Rescue Service and Community CPR Trust where they will run through some interactive community resilience tasks. Please view the Community Resilience Day agenda here.
There will also be various information stands that will be providing community resilience resources throughout the day. They will be providing refreshments and lunch free of charge.
The Emergency Management Team run a Community Resilience Day each year for members of BANES’s communities to attend. At the upcoming event this September, a representative of Saltford’s Emergency Co-ordinators Group – Phil Harding (also a SPC Councillor) – will give a community case study presentation on Saltford’s ‘Saltford Emergency and Resilience Plan‘. A member of Saltford’s Emergency Co-ordinators Group was please to be invited to present at the event, as the first community in the B&NES area to develop an emergency plan and share on a website for the information of residents.
The presentation will detail how Saltford developed its own plan, and how this would help Saltford respond at a local level in the instance of a village-wide or large scale acute emergency. Details about this, and how residents can prepare and support if an emergency occurs, can be found on the dedicated webpage as hosted by Saltford Parish Council.
Members of the Saltford Emergency Co-ordinators Group – who would look to lead should the plan be activated – are all individual residents who have volunteered to be part of the group. In an emergency, if agreed by the group, the group would engage with officers at B&NES Council – the authority responsible for emergency planning for Saltford – in the instance of a significant emergency, to help provide local information, knowledge and resource. This would include the use of Saltford’s assigned place of safety, Saltford Hall, as run by the Saltford Community Association.
B&NES Council is the authority responsible for emergency planning (Saltford Emergency Co-ordinators group does not have any responsibility for handling hazards or emergencies directly). Please see the B&NES Council Emergency Planning Team page on the B&NES Council website for further information.
