SPC marks Coronation by giving wildflower seeds to children in Saltford's Scouts & Guides groups - Saltford Parish Council

To mark the Coronation of King Charles III, SPC has given packs of wildflower seed balls to the Saltford Scouts and Saltford District Guides.

Over 170 packets of seed balls have been given out. Each packet contains hundreds of seeds and 18 species of wildflower. Once distributed to the village’s children, over 350sq metres of wildflower areas.

SPC was keen to mark the Coronation in a way that tied in with its environmental aims. Rather than giving out other types of tokens to local children (keyrings etc) to mark this historic event, SPC wanted to do something that encouraged younger residents to think about the environment – something we know the new King is very interested in!

The creation of more wildflower areas that Saltford’s children can plant and tend will support local pollinators and hopefully be enjoyed by others if planted in front gardens. The seeds take 1-2 years to establish, then re-flower year on year, meaning they will hopefully be enjoyed for a long time.

SPC understands that the seed balls will go to the Saltford Beavers (age 6-8) and possibly the Cubs too (age 8-10.5), and that the Saltford District Guides will hand them out to the Saltford Rainbows (age 4-7) and hopefully some Brownies too (age 7-10) – possibly as part of working towards relevant badges in both organisations. SPC is very grateful to the Saltford Scouts and Saltford District Guides for helping SPC mark the Coronation.
