SPC Parish Walk: Tuesday 16 June - part of the Saltford Festival 2026! - Saltford Parish Council

Saltford Parish Council will host its FREE Parish Walk on Tuesday 16 June 202, starting at 6:30pm.

SPC’s Parish Walk is part of the Saltford Festival programme for 2026. You can find out more about the Saltford Festival on Saltford Community Association’s festival website page, and download a copy of the Saltford Festival 2026 brochure.

Our sincere thanks to Saltford resident and very knowledgeable volunteer guide Cheryl for leading the walk.

The guided walk is open to all Saltford residents and is free to attend. There’s no need to book a place, please just turn up. The meeting point to start the walk is outside St Mary’s Church hall, Queen Square (nr High St), Saltford (6:30pm). Look out for a small crowd and someone wearing hi-vis!

Route of the Parish Walk 2026

The walk will take residents from Queen Square, and to and from the ‘Flourish’ site at Glenavon Farm (see https://www.flourish-group.co.uk/glenavon-farm) via the village’s beautiful Green Belt fields – as included in B&NES Council’s proposed options site for development at ‘Saltford West – North of the A4’.

It is anticipated that the walk will last approximately an hour and a half, though timings are estimates. The end point is Wedmore Road (near Saltford Hall), and it’s anticipated the walk will end at around 8pm.

Do I need to book?

No booking is required, please turn up!

Please note that the Parish Clerk (SPC’s only member of staff) will be out-of-office during the time of the Parish Walk, so will not be able to respond to any enquiries about the walk before or during the time of the festival.

Health and Safety

Participants join the Parish Walk entirely at their own risk and are responsible for their own health, safety and wellbeing throughout the event. By taking part, participants confirm that they are sufficiently fit and able to complete the walk and should wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the route and weather conditions. Parents and guardians remain responsible for children in their care at all times.

Please be aware of tree roots and other possible trip hazards, and that paths through woods and across fields may be slippery if the weather has been or is wet. Parts of the walk will be on uneven and perhaps at times rocky ground. Some parts of the walk may be on the highway, where there are no pavements.

There may also be animals (e.g. deer or livestock) in some of the fields, so everyone is advised to follow the Countryside Code.

As above, those taking part in the SPC Parish Walk are asked to wear appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear for the weather conditions and terrain. Longer trousers can protect against insect bites and ticks.

Please bring water bottles, especially if temperatures are high, and sunscreen if required.

Our volunteer guide will show the group on the walk back to the Saltford Hall area on Wedmore Road, where the walk will end.

There are no streetlights for much of the walk, though there are street lights on Wedmore Road (where the walk will end). Though the walk is due to end before we loose the light, as the weather may be unpredictable please consider bringing a torch.

Can I bring a dog?

Well behaved and friendly dogs are welcome as always on the Parish Walk.

Please ensure they are kept under control, and kept on short leads in areas where there may be livestock.

Dogs must be kept under control at all times – please be aware that deer often graze in the fields behind the church.

Hot Air Balloons frequently fly over the village during periods of calm weather in the summer – just for awareness in case your canine friend is afraid of them! Plus sometimes ‘deer scarers’ can be heard in this part of the village (regular bangs – should your dog be sensitive to sudden loud noises).

If hot, it may be a good idea to bring a drink for your dog too.

Getting to the start point

Those attending the walk are encouraged to arrive by foot, bike or bus. There is limited parking on High Street but there is a small car park and parking bay about five minutes walk away on The Shallows. Please be aware that both areas on The Shallows can be in demand, as can parking on High Street, particularly on good weather days so please allow time if looking for a place to park.

SPC asks that those joining the walk view signage in the area and park considerately if coming by vehicle. Please view SPC’s ‘Visitor Information‘ for more information.

B&NES Council’s Parking Enforcement officers prioritise visits to this area of Saltford during the summer period.

Leaving the end point

There is a B&NES Council car park at Wedmore Road, should you wish to park there and walk to the start point, or should you want to wait to collect someone from the Parish Walk. Please note the end time of the walk is only approximate.

Saltford Sports Club (behind Saltford Hall) has a bar and seating near the end point – should you want to support this brilliant and recently updated facility in the village.

(Please note that ‘Flourish’ and ‘Saltford Sports Club’ are not affiliated with SPC’s walk!)
