Road closure on The Shallows for essential drainage works
B&NES Council has informed SPC that a longstanding issue with surface water along The Shallows – between the railway and the river – has created hazardous conditions, particularly during winter months, and has begun to damage the road surface, and that to address this, essential drainage improvements are now underway by B&NES Council.
B&NES Council teams are currently installing a new pipe across the adjacent land and fitting highway drainage to resolve the flooding problem. Information is available on One.Network https://one.network/
While they had hoped to keep the road (The Shallows) open under temporary traffic management, B&NES Council has now made SPC aware that it has become necessary to fully close the road for five days from Monday 20 October, to safely complete the works.
Road closed signs have been placed on The Shallows.

- Location: The Shallows (between the railway and the river, see red section on map below)
- Duration: 5 days
- Start Date: Monday morning (20 October 2025)
- Access:
- Vehicles: No access during closure
- Pedestrians: Information states pedestrian access is unaffected and able to pass through
B&NES Council’s notice about the temporary road closure for drainage works on The Shallows is as as follows:
B&NES Council says that it is committed to completing the work as quickly as possible to minimise disruption and reopen the road at the earliest opportunity.
Clear signage will be in place, including:
- Road Ahead Closed
- Business Open as Usual
- Urgent Drainage Works

Bath & North East Somerset Council will be temporarily closing a section of Public Footpath BA27/47 near The Shallows, Saltford, to carry out essential drainage works.
The closure is scheduled to begin on 13th October 2025 and will remain in place until 9th November 2025, unless the works are completed earlier, in which case the footpath will reopen sooner.
