Waste and recycling in Saltford - Christmas and New Year 2024/25 - Saltford Parish Council

Residents in Saltford are being reminded of temporary alterations to their B&NES Council recycling and rubbish collection dates over the Christmas and New Year period.

Changes will affect collections which would normally be scheduled in late December 2024 to early January 2025. A calendar with the revised dates is available to download from the B&NES Council website at www.bathnes.gov.uk/collectionda, just type in your post code and view the links on the page that follows.

For example, if your collections are usually on a Wednesday (north side of the village) please find a collections calendar here (Nov 2024 – Nov 2025).

If your collections are usually on a Thursday (south side of the village) please find a collections calendar here (Nov 2024 – Nov 2025).

Both the above collection calendars include service changes for the Christmas and New Year period 2024/25.

Residents have received leaflets in the post (as pictured below) from B&NES Council advising them of the revised collection dates and key recycling service information during the festive period.

Garden Waste collections

Garden waste collections will pause over the Christmas and New Year period. For 2024/25, Garden Waste collections will be suspended from 2nd December and re-start from Sunday 12th January 2025.

Garden waste can be brought to B&NES Council’s recycling centres during opening hours.

Don’t forget to book a collection at www.bathnes.gov.uk/gardenwaste if you would like your Christmas Tree or garden waste sacks collected.

Christmas Tree collections

Dorothy House is again offering a Christmas tree collection for residents living in BA1, BA2, BA3 & BS31 postcodes for a small donation to their charity. Please visit their website to book a collection.

Alternatively, trees can be taken to B&NES Council’s recycling centres or put out for collection on garden waste collection days (these resume from Sunday 12 January).

Christmas Tree collections must be booked in advance via the B&NES Council website (search for Garden Waste or book a collection at www.bathnes.gov.uk/gardenwaste) and trees that have not been booked for collection and left out at the front edge of the property will not be collected.

When recycling Christmas trees, either at recycling centres or by pre-booked collections, all decorations must be removed and the tree should be cut in half, to less than 1.2m tall

Recycling (inc. wrapping paper)

On average B&NES Council collects 24% more rubbish and recycling over Christmas week than at any other time of year. Residents are being urged to recycle as much as possible and to avoid creating waste in the first place by using sustainable alternatives. For information about what you can recycle each week, visit www.bathnes.gov.uk/recyclemore

B&NES will only be accepting brown wrapping paper over the Christmas period. Most wrapping paper, even those that state they are recyclable, often contain non-paper additives such as glitter, so it cannot be recycled at kerbside.

Waste and Recycling Centres

B&NES Council’s recycling centres – including at Pixash Lane, Keynsham – will be closed on Christmas Day (Weds 25 Dec), Boxing Day (Thu 26 Dec) and New Year’s Day (Weds 1 Jan).

The Reuse Shop at Keynsham recycling centre will be closed from Saturday 21st December until Saturday 4th January 2025

Information about Keynsham Recycling Centre (Pixash Lane, BS31 1TW), including its usual opening times, can be found on the B&NES Council website at https://beta.bathnes.gov.uk/keynsham-recycling-centre

Remember when using any of B&NES Council’s waste and recycling centres that proof of residence in the B&NES area may be required (e.g. Drivers licence, Council Tax bill etc).

Residents in Bath and North East Somerset are being reminded of temporary alterations to their recycling and rubbish collection dates over the Christmas and New Year period.

The council has posted leaflets to every household advising them of changes to the recycling and rubbish collection dates and key recycling information. Residents can also easily find the information for their postcode on the Bath & North East Somerset Council website.

Changes will affect collections which would normally be scheduled from Wednesday December 25 to Saturday January 11.

A calendar with the revised dates is also available to download from the council website at https://www.bathnes.gov.uk/webforms/waste/collectionday/

Garden waste collections have been paused over the winter period and restart from Sunday January 12, 2025. Check your collection day on our website for details. Garden waste can instead be brought to the council’s recycling centres during opening hours.

Dorothy House is once again offering a Christmas tree collection for residents living in BA1, BA2, BA3 and BS31 for a donation to their charity. Alternatively, trees can be taken to the council’s recycling centres or booked in for collection on garden waste collection days from January 13 to February 14. Collections by Dorothy House or the council can be booked in advance on the council website. Trees that have not been booked for collection and left out at the front edge of the property will not be collected.

When recycling Christmas trees, either at recycling centres or by pre-booked collections, all decorations must be removed and the tree should be cut in half, to less than 1.2m tall

On average the council collects 24% more rubbish and recycling over Christmas week than at any other time of year. Residents are being urged to recycle as much as possible and to avoid creating waste in the first place by using sustainable alternatives.

Information on what can be recycled in your food bin can be found on the council website and you can line your kitchen food caddy with newspaper, compostable bags or any bag you already have available, including unwanted plastic bags, bread bin bags, salad bags or pedal bin liners. The recycling treatment process will remove all liners before the composting process begins.

Only plain brown wrapping paper will be accepted in the recycling as most Christmas wrapping paper, even those that state they are recyclable, often contain non-paper additive such as glitter, so it cannot be recycled at kerbside.

For information about what you can recycle each week, visit the council website: Recycling | Bath and North East Somerset Council.

Councillor Tim Ball, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “Christmas and New Year is an especially busy time for our crews because of the increased amount of rubbish and recycling – particularly food waste – that they need to collect. Please remember to wash, squash and sort the materials before you put them in your green boxes to prevent contamination and ensure high quality recycling. It will also help the crews to collect quickly and keep their vehicle moving to reduce traffic congestion in your road.”

The council’s recycling centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. The reuse shop in Keynsham recycling centre will close at 3.30pm on Friday 20 December and will reopen at 9.30am on Saturday 4 January. Donations during this period will be suspended and residents are asked not to leave items outside the shop when it is closed.
