Saltford residents will experience temporary alterations to B&NES Council recycling and rubbish collection dates over the Christmas and New Year period. For the 2025/26 Christmas and New Year period, changes will affect collections which would normally be scheduled from Wednesday 25 December to Saturday 11 January. There are no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Residents will have received leaflets in the post from B&NES Council advising them of the revised collection dates and key recycling service information during the festive period.
The following key dates are highlighted in the leaflet:
- ~ Changes will affect collections which are normally scheduled from 25 December to 10 January. A calendar with revised dates can be downloaded from the council website
- ~ Garden waste collections will be paused from 7 December, restarting 19 January
- Recycling centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day
- ~ The Reuse Shop will be closed from 21 December to 3 January

Alternatively, trees can be taken to B&NES Council’s recycling centres or put out for collection on garden waste collection days. Garden waste collections commence from 19 January, visit https://app.bathnes.gov.uk/webforms/waste/collectionday/ to check your next collection.
Christmas Tree collections by B&NES Council must be booked in advance via https://www.bathnes.gov.uk/christmas-tree-collections. Trees that have not been booked for collection and left out at the front edge of the property will not be collected.
Please be aware of the following information:
- ~ You can book a B&NES Council collection from Monday 5 January 2026, two weeks ahead of garden waste collections restarting
- ~ B&NES Council will only collect your tree if you have made a booking
- ~ B&NES Council will confirm your collection day when you complete your booking
When recycling Christmas trees, either at recycling centres or by pre-booked collections, all decorations must be removed and the tree should be cut in half, to less than 1.2m tall. If being collected by B&NES Council, please Leave the tree at the front edge of your property.
Recycling (inc. wrapping paper)
B&NES Council will only be accepting brown wrapping paper via your blue bag over the Christmas period. Most wrapping paper, even those that state they are recyclable, often contain non-paper additives such as glitter, so it cannot be recycled at kerbside.
Last year B&NES Council stated they collected 24% more rubbish and recycling over Christmas week than at any other time of year. Residents are being urged to recycle as much as possible and to avoid creating waste in the first place by using sustainable alternatives. For information about what you can recycle each week, visit www.bathnes.gov.uk/recyclemore
The Love Food Hate Waste website https://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com has plenty of seasonal tips to help reduce food waste and save money this Christmas.
Remember you can order more green boxes and replacement blue bags etc from B&NES Council, they deliver in c. 10 days. Visit their ‘Order a box, bin or bag’ page.
