As in previous years, Saltford Parish Council is very grateful to the 1st Saltford Scouts for leading on the arrangements of the village’s Remembrance Sunday commemorations.
SPC understands that a significant amount of time, dedication and organisation is required, and is grateful to everyone at the Saltford Scouts for their efforts on behalf of the village. Thanks also to the Saltford Guides, all uniformed youth, and other residents, volunteers and marshals involved in the arrangements so that the village can mark this important occasion.
SPC appreciates the work of B&NES Council’s Parks teams who put in in extra effort to ensure both Saltford’s War Memorial and the Saltford Memorial Garden (by the Manor Road / A4 Bath Road junction) are looking their best at this time of year. For 2024, local group ‘Saltford4Nature’ have supported B&NES Council’s care of Saltford Memorial Garden by running a tidy up and replanting morning on Saturday 19 October (details on Saltford Community Association’s Facebook page).

Parade and Remembrance Sunday Service at St Mary’s Church
Each year members of 1st Saltford Scouts and Saltford District Guides & Brownies parade from the green area in front of Saltford Hall on Broadway to the Church for a service at St Mary’s Saltford. Following the church service the parade is joined by local dignitaries, who together walk up the High Street to the War Memorial, where a short service will be carried out before the 11am silence. The parade then goes back to the Saltford Hall area prior to dispersing.
Members of the public are welcome to walk along side the parade, though please note due to capacity the Church service is for those in the parade only. The Vicar has confirmed that the church is planning to to live stream the service into the church hall (Queen’s Square) so residents can watch it from there and out of the elements. This is instead of the PA system outside of the church as previously planned. More information about St Mary’s Church, Saltford, can be found on their website.
Road closures will be in place the morning of Remembrance Sunday for the parade route, and we appreciate drivers avoiding the area. Please find details of road closures below.
Photos from Saltford’s Remembrance Sunday commemorations in 2023 can be found in SPC’s article ‘Saltford Remembers – Remembrance Sunday 2023 in pictures‘.
Timings for Remembrance Sunday commemorations
On Remembrance Sunday, 10 November 2024, the Parade will leave the area in front of Saltford Hall (Broadway) for St Mary’s Church (Queens Square) at around 9:30am.
A memorial service will take place at around 10am at St Mary’s Church for those in the parade and representatives of the community only. Due to space limitations in the church building itself only members of the parade will be able to attend the service in the church building. Members of the public are welcome to join in with the Remembrance Sunday service from the church hall where there will be a live stream of the service.
Members of the public are also welcome to wait in the churchyard. Please be aware that the churchyard ground is uneven. Please come prepared for the British weather at this time of year.
Following the church service, it is expected that the parade from St Mary’s Church to the War Memorial will take place at about 10:45, headed by Scout and Guide leaders as well as local dignitaries.
Many residents as always are expected to gather around Saltford’s War Memorial prior to 11am. A short service will take place at the War Memorial. Wreaths will be laid, including one laid by SPC Chair Cllr Jon Godfrey on behalf of all Saltford residents.
The parade will then return to the green in front of Saltford Hall (Wedmore Road / Broadway area) where it will disperse.
