Update from Wessex Water re. Access Improvement Work on Mead Lane - Saltford Parish Council

On 18 August, Saltford Parish Council received copies of two letters from Wessex Water regarding their works at the Mead Lane site including the new bridge.

Wessex Water representatives have stated they will write to SPC again with further details on the progress of the scheme as it develops, SPC will share this information once available.

The following letter will be sent to residents by Wessex Water in the near future:

Saltford Water Recycling Centre – Access Improvement Work Update

I am writing to provide you with a further update on the arrangements to provide an access over the River Avon between Saltford Water Recycling Centre (WRC) to the A431 road, which runs through Swineford and Bitton.

Following the approved planning application to Bath & North East Somerset Council for the bridge, subject to conditions, in December of last year, we have continued our environmental preparations on site for the route of the road, ahead of the main construction phase.

We have been attempting to acquire land as a key requirement to construct the extension to the water recycling centre. These discussions are continuing, and as a result the access road is not now going to be required until 2023.

We do intend to carry out some enabling works on both the road and the WRC extension over the coming months.

How will this work affect you?

There will be an increase in traffic on both sides of the river. Some of the work will be completed under traffic lights on the A431. Other elements will require some traffic movement through Saltford at which point arrangements to invoke the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) for the High Street and Mead Lane may be required.

The Temporary Traffic Restriction Order covers an 18-month period. We will not require the restrictions to be in place for that amount of time, but instead on a number of occasions during that period. We will write to Saltford residents with further details about both the TTRO and the agreements reached locally, again in the next few weeks.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any further questions please call our customer services team on 0345 600 4 600 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, emergencies at other times) or by emailing: saltford.access@wessexwater.co.uk.

We will also be further updating our scheme webpage, which can be found at www.wessexwater.co.uk/saltfordaccess with this information and further updates about the project.

High Street Saltford residents will also receive a copy of this letter in due course from Wessex Water:
