SPC understands this may cause inconvenience (all SPC Cllrs live in the village too!), but we’re sharing the details as provided by B&NES Council so residents have the latest information
Please view SPC’s article for contact details for Curo should you have any concerns or questions about these works. SPC’s article also covers information shared since the start of the Curo roadworks on the A4 last summer. Please note, SPC has no say in roadworks such as these and is not consulted, but looks to share information it receives from B&NES Council (the Highways Authority).
UPDATE 7 January 2026
On Wednesday 7 January, SPC received the following information from Curo, accompanied by the logos of Curo, B&NES Council and Galtec. (The two downloadable documents at the end were also sent through):
A4 Bath Road – Upcoming Improvement Works
Starting 5 January 2026, essential improvement works will continue along Bath Road as part of our commitment to enhancing safety and accessibility for all road users. These works will include:
· Footpath and kerb alignment upgrades progressing toward Saltford and concluding at Grange Road.
· Completion of the final section of road widening near the new entrance close to Pixash Lane.
We anticipate these improvements will be completed by April 2026, delivering a safer, more efficient route for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.
Maintaining Access and Safety
Our priority is to keep pedestrian access open throughout the construction period. Where this is not possible, temporary pedestrian signals will be installed to guide you safely around the work zone. These measures ensure that everyone can navigate the area securely while improvements are underway.
Minimizing Disruption
We understand that construction can cause inconvenience, and we are committed to reducing disruption wherever possible. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we make these important upgrades to Bath Road, creating a safer and more sustainable transport corridor for the future.

UPDATE 8 December 2025
Saltford Parish Council has been copied into correspondence as received on 5 December 2025, relating to an update on the works including pedestrian access on the A4 Bath Road (Keynsham).
A Curo representative has shared that the new footpath leading to and across the access road into the Curo development is now complete.
This means that the footpath allows Wellsway pupils and other pedestrians to remain on the same side of the road without using the marshal-controlled crossing (temporary traffic lights). As a result, these temporary crossing lights have been removed from the evening of Friday 5 December and this arrangement will remain in place until mid-February 2026
From mid-February to the end of March 2026, works will take place on the cycle and footpath heading from the Curo site entrance towards Saltford. During this period, the footpath will need to be fully closed at times, and temporary crossing controls will be reinstated to guide pedestrians safely to the opposite side of the road.
Curo’s website page for the development states that they are planning to start the new signal-controlled junction on Bath Road (as well as pedestrian and cycle improvements along the A4) in spring 2026.
SPC will look to share any further updates received on development works at this location for resident’s awareness.

UPDATE 22 September
A temporary 20mph speed limit will be in place through the A4 Bath Road roadworks in Keynsham for the Curo development from 29 September (not 22 September as previously shared). Please view One.Network for details. This temporary speed limit will be in place for up to (just over) 18 months.
SPC is aware that there was a discrepancy on the start date for the 20mph limit on the A4 Bath Road, with One.Network and the original B&NES Council notices (as shared below, under the 16 September update) stating it commenced today (22 Sept).
SPC has sought clarification on this from B&NES Council (the Highways Authority), and they have confirmed that the 20mph temporary speed limit will commence on 29 September.
Updated information has been shared by B&NES Council, the first stating about the 20mph from 29 September for two weeks, and the second which includes the 20mph plus other Temporary Traffic Regulation Order information from 13 October for 18 months. N&NES Council has also confirmed that information is showing as correct on One.Network at https://one.network/?tm=GB145653083

Notice from B&NES Council stating that a 20mph speed limit will commence on Monday 29 September 2025

Notice from B&NES Council stating that the 20mph speed limit will continue from 13 October 2025 for up to 18 months
Please find information below about temporary pedestrian crossings, which will also be in place from Monday 29 September 2025.
UPDATE 17 September
Pedestrian access through the roadworks esp. for Wellsway School students: SPC has received updated information from B&NES Council via B&NES Ward Cllr Duncan Hounsell, with regards to pedestrian access through the works. SPC thanks residents for raising concerns directly to B&NES Council about this.
B&NES Council has been in contact with CURO regarding recent concerns and has confirmed the following:
The designated pedestrian route, as marked by red and white water-filled barriers, is the correct route and should be used at all times. Site operatives (marshals) have been reminded not to direct pedestrians elsewhere.
SPC has been made aware that B&NES Council’s earlier communications indicating the southside footway would be closed from Monday 14 September – as below – were out of date when shared. B&NES Council has now confirm that the current pedestrian route alongside the red and white barriers will remain in place until 29th September.
From 29th September, the plan is to close the Southside footway and implement two designated crossing points, both of which will be managed with marshalling for safety.
B&NES Council has stated that CURO will issue updated information to the school on 17 September to reflect the current arrangements.
More detailed communications are expected to follow in the coming weeks. If received from B&NES Council and/or Curo, SPC will look to share.
B&NES Council has stated that they are in regular contact with CURO, and that CURO share their commitment to ensuring safe and clear access around the site. It has also been shared that further site visits and meetings are scheduled this week, and B&NES Council will continue monitoring the area daily to ensure all plans are followed and any issues are promptly resolved.
UPDATE 16 September:
Curo 24/7 line – 0370 050 0797 – Please note this goes to ‘Sunbelt Rentals’ – which is Sunbelt Rentals Traffic’s main switchboard – who are carrying out works on behalf of Curo. Please Select ‘5’ for Customer Complaints. Curo has confirmed that this number is correct for callers wanting to discuss traffic issues, including the Curo works on the A4 Bath Road in Keynsham.
Roadworks and pedestrian safety esp. for Wellsway School students: Saltford Parish Council has been in contact with Curo regarding ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety during the current roadworks near Wellsway School. SPC also raised concerns about pedestrian and cyclist access to B&NES Council last week. Please find correspondence from B&NES Council below (received on Friday).
In response and further to the B&NES Council information as received on Friday regarding this, Curo has today confirmed that they will be making contact Wellsway school’s administration to discuss this matter and that their engagement will also be to help reinforce the importance of using designated pedestrian routes and alternative crossings. Their shared aim is to ensure all students and pedestrians are kept safe during this period.
The Parish Council has asked Curo to confirm that marshals will be present at the key crossing points during school travel times, and that any development works will take place within core school hours to avoid peak travel times for students. SPC has also flagged that Wellsway School has an upcoming early finish day, which could see increased numbers of pupils using the A4 Bath Road. Curo has been asked to take this into account in its approach to the school and ensure marshals are prepared.
SPC appreciates Curo’s efforts to engage proactively with the school and continue to monitor this situation closely on behalf of residents. If you have any specific concerns, please contact Curo using the 24/7 number above, pressing ‘5’ for Customer Complaints.
New 20mph speed limit through roadworks: B&NES Council, the Highways Authority, has today advised that there will be a 20mph speed restriction notice starting next Monday 22nd September 2025 for 21 days. Further to this, B&NES Council has shared: This restriction then continues under a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) from Monday 13th October 2025 for up to 18 months, which will also include a one-way restriction on Pixash Lane and Grange Road and a night-time road closure (closure dates to be confirmed). SPC received two notices from B&NES Council, as below.

Any queries regarding the new temporary 20mph speed limit at this location need to be directed to B&NES Council (the Highways Authority), not SPC.
Roadworks – who’s responsible? – Saltford Parish Council (SPC) is not responsible for roadworks or the planning and management of them, nor is SPC responsible for communications to residents about major roadworks. Though not our responsibility, SPC makes considerable efforts and does its best to keep the community informed by sharing updates when information is made available to us by Curo or B&NES Council, or by signposting residents on how to raise concerns or issues. SPC has also sought clarification from Curo and B&NES Council, to share with residents. If you have concerns, questions, or complaints about ongoing roadworks – including those linked to the Curo development on A4 Bath Rd Keynsham – these should be directed to:
Curo – for any development-related concerns, 24/7 number for the A4 Bath Rd development is 0370 050 0797 (press ‘5’ for customer complaints, be aware the first message states ‘Sunbelt Rentals’).
B&NES Council – for roadworks management and highways issues https://www.bathnes.gov.uk/contact-us or 01225 394041
SPC Communications about Curo Development Works – A4 Bath Road, Keynsham: There may sometimes be a delay on sharing information received from B&NES Council or Curo. SPC has one part-time member of staff, and understandably during working hours priority is focussed first on SPC business continuity and SPC’s own statutory responsibilities, in the interests of Saltford residents. For this reason, Saltford Parish Council does not enable public comments on its social media pages. Unlike larger organisations with dedicated communications teams, SPC operates with just one part-time member of staff, making it impractical to monitor, moderate and respond to comments around the clock or to check posts daily, which is why commenting is not usually possible. SPC uses social media as an ‘electronic noticeboard’ to share information with residents. SPC is not obliged to share information about roadworks (or any matter!), but does so when it can to aid resident awareness of such matters. Thanks to everyone who follows, likes and engages with SPC’s social media contact, it is noted and appreciated. With regards to queries about the works, as above, B&NES Council is the Highways Authority (not SPC), and Curo has a 24/7 number for public enquiries or concerns about the Curo Development works on A4 Bath Road, Keynsham.
UPDATE 15 September:
Update received to SPC on Friday 12 September, 2:15pm, from B&NES Council – as follows:
“As of 15.00 today, ahead of the kerbing work scheduled for Monday, a temporary footway will be in place on the south side. This eliminates the need for temporary pedestrian signals over the weekend. Once more intrusive works begin on Monday, this arrangement will unfortunately no longer be feasible due to restricted width and the worksite being unsuitable for a safe pedestrian route.
From Monday, a second set of temporary pedestrian lights will be installed near the Pixash Lane junction, accompanied by appropriate signage. These will be double-headed and marshalled to assist with pedestrian flow and ensure safe crossing. The current easterly pedestrian lights will be relocated further west. With a bus stop suspension in place, this new location will be better positioned away from the garage and will also feature double heads and marshals to support pedestrian movement. We have also agreed to reduce the speed limit to 20mph and once in force signage will be updated.
Thank you once again for your continued patience as the site progresses. We will continue to monitor conditions next week and respond to any concerns raised”.
UPDATE 11 September PM:
A4 Roadworks (Curo Development) – update from B&NES Council “Positive development that will improve traffic flow”.
As of 4pm 11 Sept, SPC’s able to share the latest update regarding the current roadworks on the A4 near Saltford from B&NES, following SPC’s and other’s requests for information:
The original traffic management plan involved two-way signals operating from 09.30 to 15.00 and pedestrian lights outside of these times.
Following B&NES Council’s site assessments and meetings this week, the two-way traffic signals are no longer required at this stage.
The area opposite the new entrance has now been adjusted to allow sufficient space for 24/7 two-way traffic flow, which should significantly improve movement through the area.
Pedestrian Access:
The south side footway remains closed, but access is maintained via:
A temporary crossing on the east side of the works
A refuge island opposite Pixash Lane
A permanent crossing near Fairfield Way (approx. 150m away)
B&NES Council has shared that this arrangement will continue to be monitored and adjusted if necessary/possible. Temporary pedestrian signals are manually controlled and supported by marshals to help minimise traffic stoppages.
What’s next?
This setup will stay in place until late Jan or early Feb 2026.
At that time, kerbing works in narrower sections will mean:
Reintroducing the 09:30–15:00 two-way signals
A temporary one-way system on Pixash Lane and Grange Road
B&NES Council says that more details will be shared closer to the time.
We have been informed that the 09:30–15:00 signal window is a common, approved approach for managing works on the A4.
SPC requested that B&NES Council communicate via their usual channels updates on these Curo Development works on the A4, and are grateful to B&NES Council for confirming that this will take place.
Residents are advised to keep an eye on One.Network for updates. B&NES Council says that the description on https://one.network/ will be updated shortly, and official communications will reflect these changes.
B&NES has shared that they will be in contact if there are any significant updates to the information above. Should any further information separate to this be received to SPC, we’ll look to share.
Please note that following the above, some information in the original article (below) is now out of date.
UPDATE 11 September AM:
Just a reminder that Saltford Parish Council (SPC) is not responsible for roadworks or the planning and management of them. We do our best to keep the community informed by sharing updates when information is made available to us.
If you have concerns, questions, or complaints about the roadworks these should be directed to:
Curo – for any development-related concerns, 24/7 number for the A4 Bath Rd development is 0370 050 0797 (please note this goes to ‘Sunbelt Rentals’ – which is Sunbelt Rentals Traffic’s main switchboard – who are carrying out works on behalf of Curo. B&NES Council – for roadworks management and highways issues https://www.bathnes.gov.uk/contact-us or 01225 394041
Saltford Parish Council contacted B&NES Council yesterday afternoon regarding the level of disruption due to the roadworks. It appears B&NES Council is aware of the current issues, and from today (11 September), they are aiming to mitigate the impact by introducing a contraflow system and removing the temporary traffic lights.
The One.Network entry for the works has also been updated since yesterday, and now states as of 11/09/25:
CURO Development Scheme – New entrance and associated infrastructure works.
Fairfield Way to Grange Road – Multiway/two-way/pedestrian crossing.
Conditions include:
• 09:30–15:00 vehicle shuttle working
• 15:00–09:30 pedestrian signal
• Manual control 07:00–19:00
• Weekend working
• Pedestrian crossing only unless otherwise agreed
• Embargo dates with two-way traffic flow only from 27–31 October 2025, and normal two-way traffic and pedestrian flow from 24 November 2025 – 1 January 2026
SPC has asked B&NES for clarification on what these changes will mean in practice, specifically ‘vehicle shuttle working’, so that we can understand the information correctly and provide an accurate update to residents via our website and social media.
Please note some of the current information we’ve published below is now out of date.
SPC has contacted B&NES Council again today to ask for details and information on these changes to the planned roadworks, for resident awareness, in consideration of the impact of these works on residents and businesses in our area.
SPC also urged B&NES Council to share new and clarified information about the works on its website and social media, for wider awareness.
Any response will be shared here. Please keep an eye on our website and social media. Please note the Clerk works part time, so there may be a delay when sharing information. B&NES Council is the Highways Authority (not SPC), and as such SPC does not have any information about the works further to what has been shared on its website and social media.
Curo has shared that a 24/7 contact number will be in place throughout the period: TBC – we are aware that the number previously given to us by Curo no longer works, and have approached Curo for updated information
UPDATE 8 September: Curo has shared that a 24/7 contact number will be in place throughout the period: 0370 050 0797 (please note this goes to ‘Sunbelt Rentals’ – which is Sunbelt Rentals Traffic’s main switchboard – who are carrying out works on behalf of Curo. Please Select ‘5’ for Customer Complaints. Curo has confirmed that this number is correct for callers wanting to discuss traffic issues, including the Curo works on the A4 Bath Road in Keynsham).
Original article:
Saltford Parish Council would like to make residents aware of upcoming road and infrastructure works being carried out by CURO Group on the A4 Bath Road, Keynsham.
SPC has been informed by B&NES Council – the Highways Authority – that works will begin on Sunday 8th September 2025, starting with the construction of a new entrance, approximately opposite the hand car wash and La Famiglia restaurant.
This marks the start of a larger project that includes further infrastructure improvements between the Grange Road and Fairfield Way junctions. The overall works are expected to take around 35 weeks to complete.
Traffic Management Plans
Given the busy – and in recognition of the sensitive – nature of the A4, B&NES Council has worked closely with CURO and their contractors to agree a traffic management plan that aims to minimise disruption, especially during peak travel times.
Here’s what you need to know:
- 🕤 Between 09:30 and 15:00 – Portable traffic signals will be in use to manage traffic during off-peak hours.
- 🕒 Outside of these hours (15:00–09:30) – The site will be reconfigured daily to allow two-way traffic, with portable pedestrian signals in place to help people cross safely.
- 🚦 This flexible setup helps avoid the need for 24/7 traffic lights and aims to keep rush-hour traffic flowing more smoothly.
- 👷♂️ On-site marshals will be present every day from 07:00 to 19:00 to guide both vehicles and pedestrians safely.
Christmas Period Access
Usually B&NES Council looks to limit planned roadworks on the A4 in our area during the busy Christmas period, including during the Bath Christmas Market. Although the project will continue through the Christmas embargo period (24th November – 1st January), arrangements will be made during this time to temporarily restore full vehicle and pedestrian access to minimise disruption during the festive season.
How Residents Will Be Informed
B&NES Council has shared that to help keep everyone informed:
- 📢 An electric Variable Message Sign (VMS) and Advance Warning Signs (AWS) will be installed this week.
- 📬 Letter drops will be delivered to affected homes and nearby properties.
- 🐦 CURO will also be sharing updates via their official X (Twitter) account.
SPC will continue to share updates when available and received from B&NES Council or Curo. In the meantime, please plan ahead if you regularly travel along this section of the A4 and allow extra time where needed. Details should be made available on One.Network in due course.
For further information or questions, please refer to CURO’s contact details (https://www.curo-group.co.uk/contact-us/) or keep an eye on their website and noticeboards.
Please note that SPC is sharing information from B&NES Council, for resident awareness, and does not have any further information on these works. If anything further is communicated, SPC will look to share. SPC aims to share information as it understands the impact of roadworks on the A4 Bath Road on residents (SPC Councillors and staff live in the village too!). Please keep an eye on our social media for updates.
